Our Demands
The large number of suicides by Dalit students in Indian educational system, especially in premier science and professional colleges and universities, are a mere pointer towards the widespread prevalence of various forms of caste-discrimination and humiliations that our students have to undergo on a regular basis while pursuing their higher education.
The testimonies of Balmukund Bharti’s parents and family members in the documentary ‘The Death of Merit’ also prove the kind of mental torture and harassment our students have to go through just because they belong to the ‘wrong’ castes.
Therefore, on behalf of all Dalit and Adivasi students, we demand the Government of India to
• Order investigation into the suicides of Linesh Mohan Gawle (NII) and Balmukund Bharti (AIIMS)
• Appoint an enquiry committee to probe into students’ suicides in Indian campuses
• Appoint a judicial commission to enquire about the prevalence of various forms of caste-discrimination in higher education and to come out with stringent measures to prevent such happenings and for punishing the guilty faculty members, students and administration.
• Take steps for immediate implementation of recommendations made by Prof Thorat Committee report and we also demand exemplary punishments for faculty members and students who were involved in harassing our students in AIIMS as per the committee report.
If these demands are not met by the Indian government by 31st May, 2011, the Dalit and Adivasi students and youth will be forced to start a nation-wide agitation from June 1.
We, the Dalit and Adivasi students and youth, are now determined to make our campuses caste-discrimination free and will go to any extent possible to assert our constitutional right of pursuing education in free and fair manner.
The Death of Merit

The conditions Dalit and Adivasi students have to face in national institutes is utterly disgusting and shameful. Only stringent punishment and vigilance can work in the current hostile, castist atmosphere. It is the the only way to secure just treatment to students from Dalit and Adivasi background. This agitation should not end unless the demands are met. I hope the agitation gets response from all over the country, students feel encouraged to join it and fight this war against the hostile upper castists.
I am also a dalit. Faced and facing discrimination from an useless dominating caste gang especially who are uneducated or less educated as they envy on my educational status.I want to say some facts to all our brothers and sisters.Many of our caste people try to hide that we belong to sc/st caste. That may be due to any reason. But following our Baba Sahib Dr.Ambedkar, and respecting the pains taken by him for us, we should be united in our caste at any situation. Educated sc/st persons should proudly tell ” I belong to scheduled caste/scheduled tribe caste”, if anyone asks”wat s ur caste”. Then only they ll know our talents,skills and it ll increase respect to our caste. We r not belonging to the caste of the people who finds their growth in others fall or decline. They have no guts to bear and compete our growth. They always prefer their opponents to be poisoned before fight starts as to have an easy win. I feel pain as an own brother when i hear such incidents against us. We should be like the seeds even at the condition of falling to rise again. Unity Unity Unity. That we need now. We should find some organisation or centre or an association for us and join it. We all should get united. Sure we will have a change soon. BE UNITED.NEVER LET IT.
why pain to us,why cant we make them to suffer.try hard for success,dogs always barks when the lions are in cage,when lion roars then the situation is different.i sincerely appeal to all brothrs and sisters of the great blood of dalits,life is very important,concentrate on studies stop thinking of there comments and study well, u people become lecturers in iits,nits then play the game and kill the snakes in every aspect and encourage the dalit students.you have to be strong ,if u cant bear the insult study the life of ambedkar then u will know what the duties of u as being a dalit.ur life,family and the future of the indian history all depends on the great dalit blood,u people please focus on studies.our brothers and sisters are with u to help u in every aspect..the constitution is our holy book,ambedkar is our prophet,the victory is our destination.
know the power within you.please be strong.
i know what is going inside all iits,nits and major educational institute but tu never give up.if cant then kill them,but dont die,we need u,we care for u.
be proud to be dalit,if rebirth exits then also i prefer dalit if not death.
